Dial-A-Dumbell©Joan Price. May not be reprinted without permission. How would you like to replace 6 sets of dumbbells with one set? The Pro/Bell System lets you do exactly that. You "dial" the amount of weight you want - from 5 to 30 pounds in 5-pound increments - and the dumbbell locks it in. If you’ve wanted the versatility of a set of dumbbells but thought you didn’t have the space, this innovative product solves your problem! I've been using the Pro/Bell dumbbells, and I love them. They're easy and comfortable to use -- they look and feel just like regular dumbbells -- and changing weight is a breeze. How do they work? The dumbbell sits in a tray which holds the weight plates in exactly the right place and position. The dumbbell’s center bar is steel and “knurled” (textured) for gripping ease and safety. At each end is an internal cam system which locks or releases the number of weight plates that correspond to the weight you dial. Dial 5 pounds, and you get the dumbbell without any plates. Dial 10 pounds, and the dumbbell locks in a weight plate at each end. Dial 15, and two weight plates are locked in at each end. And so on, up to 30 pounds.
Changing weight is as simple as putting the dumbbell back in the tray (it fits easily over the weight plates, no manipulation required) and dialing another number. If you're not quite ready - or you're too advanced - for 5-pound increments, Pro/Bell will introduce two new systems at the end of 2000: a system with 3 pound increments and a 45-pound Pro/Bell System. The Pro/Bell sells for $279.00 (black plates) or $329.00 (chrome plates), with free shipping. The sturdy stand, which keeps the weights at the right height and angle for easy access and rolls on castors (excellent idea!), sells separately for $149.00.
